The Judgment
Huan. Dispersion brings progress and success. The king goes to the ancestral temple. It furthers to cross the great stream. Hold firm and correct.
Classical (Legge)Hwan intimates that (under its conditions) there will be progress and success. The king goes to his ancestral temple; and it will be advantageous to cross the great stream. It will be advantageous to be firm and correct.
The Image
Wind moves over water. Huan. The ancient kings made offerings to heaven and established the ancestral temple.
Classical (Legge)(The trigram representing) wind, and that for water (over which it blows), form Hwan. The ancient kings, in accordance with this, presented offerings to God and established the ancestral temple.
The Changing Lines
He brings help with the strength of a horse. Good fortune.
Classical (Legge)He affords the help (denoted by the lower trigram, using) a horse of great vigour. There will be good fortune.
Amidst the dispersion, he hurries to his place of security. All occasion for regret disappears.
Classical (Legge)Amidst the dispersion he hurries to his contrivance (for security). All occasion for repentance will disappear.
He sets aside regard for his own person. There will be no occasion for regret.
Classical (Legge)He has no regard to his own person. There will be no occasion for repentance.
He scatters the factions in the state. Great good fortune. From the dispersion he gathers good people standing out, a crowd like a mound. This is what ordinary minds would not have conceived.
Classical (Legge)He scatters the (different) parties (in the state); which leads to great good fortune. From the dispersion (he collects again good men standing out, a crowd) like a mound, which is what ordinary men would not have thought of.
Amidst the dispersion, he issues great announcements like sweat pouring from his body. He scatters abroad the accumulations in the royal granaries. There will be no error.
